Fruit and the Fruit that Remains

School has been out for the summer, but one thing that remains the same at Life Promotions throughout every season is evangelism. Our heart is to reach youth with the gospel before age 18. You may have heard me say it before, but I truly mean it: I am more passionate and laser-focused toward that end goal than ever.

For the summer, the venues look a little different.  We may be at festivals instead of schools and rallies, but let it be clear: whenever God allows us to be in front of an audience, our heart longs to bring people into a relationship with Jesus.

We were able to partner with Atlanta Fest this June where I gave the evangelistic keynote before Skillet. We saw so much fruit, but let me tell you one story.

A grandma came up to me after my talk, with tears running down her face. “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” she said. “My eight year old grandson sat on my lap and could not take his eyes off you during your whole talk. He held on to every word you spoke. When you gave the invitation to receive Christ, his hand was the first one that went up!”

She continued, “I’ve been praying for him to know the love of Jesus. When you asked people to come and get a Bible and follow up material, he didn’t even ask me. He jumped up out of my arms and ran to the prayer tent.”  This is why we do what we do. This is why we ask for your prayers and financial support. Pray for this little guy. His faith life is just beginning.

People ask, “Do you think it’s real? Do you think they last? Do you think they become disciples? Or is it just emotion?” Let me share about another person I spoke with in Atlanta, right after that grandma.

My wife, Carol, introduced me to a woman and said, “You have to hear her story, Bob.”  A woman walked up to me and said, “My name is Jo. I’m from Oshkosh, Wisconsin.” I was surprised to see someone from Oshkosh all the way in Georgia.  She went on to tell me, “A friend brought me to Lifest 11 years ago. I did not know Jesus when I came to Lifest, but I met Him there and He changed my life. I want to thank you and your team for putting on Lifest, and for you speaking at it. I am a Christian today because of it!”

My heart swelled with joy, and my eyes swelled with tears as she continued, “The fall after I went to Lifest I went away to college at UW Madison. There, I got involved with Campus Crusade for Christ. I think my parents thought I was crazy or in a cult, because for spring break I went down to an outreach in inner city Chicago instead of a drunken beach in Florida.” We laughed together.

“It took me five years to finally get my parents to come to Lifest,” she said. “But now, they both love it and get their tickets a year in advance. Since then, they have both put their trust in Christ. I now live down here in Atlanta for my job, but I come back every year for Lifest, and this year my dad is volunteering on the stage crew. I want you to know what you do matters.”

This never gets old, hearing stories of changed lives.  I asked Jo why she was at Atlanta Fest.  She told me she was volunteering for Compassion International. “My parents and I now sponsor children because we want to make a difference in this world,” she explained.

Eleven years later she is still serving God, all because of the foolishness of sharing the gospel at Lifest.

Fruit remains. She was 17 years old then. Now look what she is doing.

Pray for that 8 year old boy; just imagine where he will be and who he will be impacting when he is 19. God reached another one before 18.

For the Kingdom,
